Week 8: 5 Lions to Watch vs the New York Giants

The Detroit Lions will go into week 8 in a must win situation. Fortunately, they will face the New York Giants — a team the Lions should be able to beat. Here are some Lions players who need to play well.

1. DE Da’Shawn Hand

Hand will be making his season debut (an absolute beautiful sentence to type out). He made a significant impact his rookie year and everyone hopes be can bring that to the table again this season. With Hand back, look for an upgraded pass rush and for the defensive line to get back on track.

2. WR Marvin Jones

Jones is coming off a four-touchdown game. How will he follow that up? Will he see increased targets? Or will he force defenses to plan against him and allow others like Golladay to make plays? Only time will tell, but either way, Jones is a player to watch.

3. CB Rashaan Melvin

Melvin will need to not only continue with his solid season, but also step into the top wide corner role with fellow cornerback, Darius Slay, missing the game due to injury. Melvin and Coleman, even without Slay, are a formidable duo that the Giants can’t take lightly.

4. RB Ty Johnson

Johnson will make his first career start on Sunday after Kerryon Johnson was placed on injured reserve. Ty Johnson is an explosive playmaker who showed in the preseason that his speed can translate to the next level. He has only had a handful of snaps so far in the regular season, but that should change against the Giants.

5. S Will Harris

After the Lions traded away team captain and starting safety Quandre Diggs, Harris is the next man up. You would assume a large amount of Diggs snaps will go to Harris, with some help from veteran, Tavon Wilson. Coach Patrica said he did not see much of a step back from the rookie Harris and Diggs, which is why they made the move.
