No fluff today. Here are five key matchups for the Detroit Lions if they want to come away with a victory in Buffalo.
1. LB Jarrad Davis vs QB Josh Allen
Allen is the Bills offense. He leads Buffalo in passing and rushing yards on the season. Even though Allen has 79 fewer carries than RB LeSean McCoy, Allen has more rushing yards. Davis will have to use his speed to spy Allen and take away the quarterback running game and force Allen to throw the ball — which is not his strength.
2. RT Tyrell Crosby vs DE Shaq Lawson
Crosby is making his first career NFL start. He will be taking over the right tackle duties for the injured Rick Wagner. This start becomes a little harder because the Lions right guard, TJ Lang, is on IR so the rookie won’t have that veteran next to him. Lawson is coming off a bad game where he did not register a quarterback pressure or hit.
3. CB Darius Slay vs WR Zay Jones
Jones was quiet last week with only 22-yards receiving , however, the week before, he had 67-yards and a pair of touchdowns against Miami. Jones has flown under the radar, but the Lions need to be prepared because he is an overall solid player. Slay is coming off of his first career pick-six and will most likely be looking to add another against an inaccurate rookie quarterback.
4. WR Kenny Golladay vs CB Tre’Davious White
Golladay has to have a better performance after his letdown last week. This is starting to become an usual opening line for the young wide receiver as he has been a disappointment ever since he became the main receiving option. White is an emerging star in the league who is not going to give Golladay an inch. Golladay will have to earn every yard he gets.
5. QB Matthew Stafford vs Bills Defensive Backs
Stafford has struggled this year, whether that is from having no one that gets open, no threat in the run game since Johnson’s injury, the offensive line not being able to keep him upright, or even just Stafford having a bad year on his own. After all that, Stafford is suiting up injured once again and he has to face a very strong defense. Stafford is going to have to play through pain and also compensate for the missing offensive starters like Marvin Jones, Michael Roberts, Wagner, Johnson, Lang, and Ellington — half of the offense’s starters.Follow here:
