Week 13: 5 Players Who Impressed and 5 Who Did Not

5 Who Impressed

1. RB Theo Riddick

Riddick had a bad game on the ground besides his rushing TD. He only accumulated 21-yards on nine carries. Where he excels the most is in the pass game and this week was no different. He caught five passes for 41 yards– most of those yards coming after the catch.

2. RB Tion Green

Green had a great NFL debut in his 11 carries. He gained 51-yards and had a TD. In his first career touch, he had a 33-yard gain, which is the second longest run on the season for any Lions RB.

3. QB Matthew Stafford

Stafford had a great game despite what a lot of people think. Stafford set a new Lions franchise record with 20 straight completions. Stafford was 24/29, 292 yards one TD and one INT. All against a top five defense and having pressure applied to him all game long.

4. WR Marvin Jones

Jones had four catchs for 90-yards. Jones continues his great season and is on pace for over 1,000-yards and 10 TDs.

5. TE Eric Ebron

Ebron has been improving over the last five weeks. He continued this trend on Sunday with four catches for 38-yards. Three of his four catches were for first downs.

5 Who Did Not

1. LB Jarrad Davis

First, he jumped offside on the 2nd play of the game. Missed a would-be tackle for a loss and missed another at 6:10 in the first quarter. Fox broadcaster and former Lions linebacker, Chris Spielman, was ripping the Lions defensive communication– that falls on Davis. Davis may need to be relegated to an ancillary role untill he can get his head in the game.

I counted four missed tackles with one of those in the backfield for a loss of two. Instead, the running back broke Davis’ attempt and ran for a gain of three– a five yard differance.

2.  LB Tahir Whitehead

Another week and another poor game by Whitehead. Like Davis, he missed a few tackles. In one instance, he ran into the ball carrier and never even put his arms up, let alone attempt to wrap up the ball carrier.

His coverage did get a little better in this game to his credit, but to improve on that is to be within five yards of his player.

3. HC Jim Caldwell

Caldwell had his fifth time of less than 11 players on the field. However, the other four occasion were 10 players on the field, this time there were only nine on the field and on a crucial 3rd down.

This is beyond inexcusable. High school teams dont even have this issue.

4. DC  Teryl Austin

I counted four different occasions in this game where play action to the flats picked up either a first down or TD.

His defense can’t stop the NFL’s worst passing offense. Flacco had his season high in yards.

5. K Matt Prater

Praters is normally as consistant as they come, however, he missed a field goal and an extra point. He will be fine moving forward, but just needs to shake it off and put this one behind him.
