Lions trade TE Michael Roberts to Patriots

According to Justin Rogers, the Detroit Lions are trading TE Micheal Roberts to the New England Patriots for a late round pick.

UPDATE: Lions will receive a 2020 conditional seventh round pick.

The former fourth round selection of GM Bob Quinn was in a crowded tight room end this year. The Lions added Jesse James and Logan Thomas in free agency along with drafting T.J. Hockenson and Isaac Nauta. It was no secret the Lions struggled mightily at the position last season and now they have completed a full overhaul from a year ago.

The third-year player has totaled 13 receptions, 146 yards and three touchdowns in his career.

Early indications from mini-camp would suggest that Roberts was not in line to receive much playing time — often being the fourth TE for snaps.

With a chance of not making the team, it was probably wise for Quinn to get something in return for Roberts while he can.
