The Detroit Lions are set to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in what promises to be an intense showdown. Elevating the weight of this game, FOX has positioned its premier broadcast team, including Tom Brady, for the coverage during the late afternoon slot.
On the injury front, Detroit’s defense remains bruised, with several key players on the mend. Defensive end Josh Paschal will miss his second consecutive game following a finding during his annual cancer screening last week (unrelated to his previous college diagnosis).
Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez sustained an ankle injury in Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans. Initial reports from Monday suggested he’d be sidelined this week, with hopes for a possible return by Week 10.
Defensive tackle Brodric Martin, currently on injured reserve after a knee injury in the preseason finale, has only recently activated his 21-day window to rejoin the 53-man roster. Though he was ruled out Friday, he remains off the active roster, and thus won’t be listed among Sunday’s inactives.
Rookie defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo, who appeared on the practice injury report Thursday with an ankle issue, was marked as doubtful. Additionally, rookie running back Sione Vaki’s practice attendance varied this week due to a knee issue and was likewise tagged as doubtful on Friday.
Players listed as doubtful can sometimes experience last-minute status shifts, and indeed, both Wingo and Vaki were downgraded on Saturday afternoon as neither will accompany the team to Green Bay.
The official inactive lists will be updated about 90 minutes before kickoff, but based on who we already know is out, here are the Week 9 inactives for the Lions:
- DL Josh Paschal
- LB Malcolm Rodriguez
- DL Mekhi Wingo
- RB Sione Vaki
Likewise, the Week 9 inactives for the Packers will be fully updated once confirmed 90 minutes before kickoff.
