The Lions have officially added a former Bears star playmaker to their active roster.

It’s been quite a journey for a former Chicago Bears player over the past few months.

Ex-Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson signed with the New York Giants, aiming to secure a spot on their active roster during training camp. Unfortunately, things didn’t go his way, and he was ultimately released by the Giants.

Shortly after, Allen Robinson found a new opportunity with the Detroit Lions, joining their practice squad. He was promoted for the Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, although he only played one percent of the snaps. Despite the limited game time, Robinson’s performance in practice must have stood out, as he was signed to the active roster on Thursday, as reported by Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper.

“Wide receiver Allen Robinson played one snap for the Lions in last Sunday’s win over the Cardinals, and he’ll have a chance to build on that total against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night,” Alper shared. “The Lions announced that they have signed Robinson to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. In addition, they signed linebacker Abraham Beauplan to the practice squad.

“Robinson joined the Lions after failing to make the Giants’ roster in training camp this summer. Last season, he played in every game for the Pittsburgh Steelers, recording 34 catches for 280 yards during the regular season. He also added two catches for 12 yards in their playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.”

At his peak, Robinson was a standout performer. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, after an impressive 1,400 receiving yards season. Though injuries disrupted his trajectory, he found his stride again with the Chicago Bears. In 2019, Robinson tallied 1,147 receiving yards, followed by 1,250 yards in 2020. Unfortunately, injuries and reduced roles have hindered him in recent years. There’s hope, however, that he can rejuvenate his career with the Lions.
