The Detroit Lions recently announced that they have signed free agent TE Scott Orndoff.
The Lions added some tight end depth this afternoon, Scott Orndoff. Waived-injured DT Bruce Gaston.

Contract terms for the rookie out of Pitt were not disclosed.
The 6-foot-5, 253-pound pass catcher is the ninth tight end on the Lions 90-man roster. He was originally picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers after going undrafted in this past draft.
Orndoff showed he was capable of being a down field threat in college, but his average athleticism will limit him to a more traditional in-line blocking role in the NFL.

In a corresponding move, the Lions have waived/injured DT Bruce Gaston.
The journeyman defensive tackle signed with the Lions in June after playing nine total games for both the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers last season.
Gaston had a couple nice plays this preseason but was buried on the depth chart and was dealing with injury.
He still could go to IR if he passes through waivers.
It’s highly unlikely Orndoff makes the final roster.
