Lions sign LB Trevor Bates, waive a tight end

The Detroit Lions have signed free agent LB Trevor Bates.

Contract details were not disclosed.

In a corresponding move, the Lions waived undrafted free agent TE DeAndre Goolsby.

Bates was originally drafted in 2016 after being selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round (239th overall) out of Maine. The 6-foot-1, 247-pound linebacker has also spent time with the New England Patriots and New York Giants on their practice squads.

Bates is a longshot to make the 53-man roster.
