The Detroit Lions have agreed to a three year extension with Pro Bowl kicker Matt Prater.
Reports are that the deal is worth $11.4 million with a max value of $12.15 million.
Prater, 33, only has two misses so far this year and they are both 55+ yard attempts. Can’t fault a guy for those, especially with how reliable he has been from long distance. He didn’t miss a kick over 50-yards all last year and has the most consecutive FGs made (7) over 55-yards in NFL history.
The 11-year veteran still holds the NFL record for longest field goal in the history of the league (64-yards) as well as Detroit’s franchise record (59-yards).
After the Lions initially signed him as an UDFA in 2006, Prater returned in 2014 after a good run with the Denver Broncos. He is in the final season of his current contract and will now be a Lion through 2020.
