The Detroit Lions claimed their 2017 sixth-round pick off waivers after the Panthers released him in favor of former-Lion QB Garrett Gilbert.
GM Bob Quinn and staff obviously liked Kaaya enough as a developmental prospect coming out of the draft. The Miami product did not make the Lions initial 53-man roster but will receive another chance.
Bob Quinn called cutting Kaaya his toughest decision when they set the 53-man roster.

He did not play a regular season snap in Carolina.
At the very least, the Lions will have another quarterback project and possible insurance policy for a beat-up Matthew Stafford.
