With Detroit Lions punter Sam Martin returning to practice this week, it was only a matter of time before he was activated from the NFI list. Today is that day.
#Lions have activated P Sam Martin to the active roster from Reserve/Non-Football Injury and released DE Jacquies Smith

Recently signed DE Jacquies Smith was released to make room for Martin.
Former Lions punter Jeff Locke was also cut earlier in the week but his roster spot was given to WR Jace Billingsley.
Martin is one of the best punters in the NFL and will be a welcomed addition. The 5th-year punter was second in the league last year in net punting.
It is still somewhat of a mystery as to how Martin was injured this past off-season.
