Lions 2016 sack leader leaves game with injury

The Detroit Lions did not even make it through a full quarter of their first preseason game before the injury bug bites. It appears that defensive end Kerry Hyder suffered a left lower leg injury.

The extent of his injury is unknown¬†at this time, but he had to be carted off–never a good sign. Gauging by the pain he appeared to be in, it would be difficult to claim it is just a minor ailment.

Hyder was a roster dark horse last preseason and ended up leading the Lions in sacks in 2016.

The Lions are already thin at the defensive end position. Ziggy Ansah has been on the PUP, free agent pickup Cornelius¬†Washington has been battling an ankle injury himself and did not participate in today’s game.

UDFA rookie Jeremiah Valoaga succeeded Hyder on the left side.

Stay tuned as more information is revealed…
