According to Ian Rapoport, the Detroit Lions have reached an agreement with RB LeGarrette Blount.
The #Lions are signing FA RB LeGarrette Blount to a 1-year deal worth $4.5M, source said. He’s back with Matt Patricia, as the New England ties are strong.

His contract is worth $4.5-million for one-year. After only getting a $1.25-million dollar deal in last year’s free agency, Blount seemed to really cash in with the Lions. Fortunately, his base salary is only $2-million and he has $2.5-million in incentives.
Blount's deal is $2M with ability to earn $2.5M more in incentives.

The 31-year old back originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2010 out of Oregon. Blount has bounced around from the Tennessee Titans (2010), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2010-2012), New England Patriots (2010), Pittsburgh Steelers (2014), back to the Patriots (2014-2016) and most recently the Philadelphia Eagles.
Oddly enough, the three time Super Bowl winning back has spent the last two seasons as a Super Bowl Champion– both with a different team. The third time is a charm right?
Lions HC Matt Patricia was a defensive coach for the Patriots when Blount was in New England.
At 6-foot, 250-pounds, Blount is one of the most physical running backs in the entire NFL. He has ammased 5,888-yards and 51 touchdowns in his eight seasons played.

The Lions were in the bottom of the NFL in terms of conversion percentage last year on 3rd/4th and short to go. A big bruiser like Blount should go a long ways in that department for the Lions.
This signing likely means that RB Frank Gore is out of the equation. Don’t be surprised if GM Bob Quinn still targets a back early in the upcoming draft though.
Sleep easy tonight Lions fans, a flashy free agency signing addressing the run game was finally made. Now it just needs to pay off.
