1. WR Golden Tate vs CB Patrick Peterson:
Tate got off to an extremely slow start last year. For the first three weeks, he had a career-low in catches and yards over a three game stretch.
This year will hopefully start off much better, however, this is not an easy matchup for Tate. He will be matched up vs Peterson– a top three cover corner in the NFL. Peterson’s speed and agility will match, maybe even surpass Tate’s.
When these two teams played in 2015, Tate ended the game with eight catches, for 74 yards.
2. New Look O–line vs Cardinals Pass Rush:
The Detroit Lions are starting four different offensive linemen from last years week 1 team.
The Arizona Cardinals lead the NFL in sacks last year. How can the new O-line hold up vs NFL’s best pass rush last year?
This will be a great test for the Lions, can they open up holes for the run game? Can they protect the NFL’s most expensive QB Matthew Stafford?
The Lions do catch a small break ad standout pass rusher Robert Nkemdiche is out for this game with a calf injury.
3. LB Jarrad Davis vs RB David Johnson:
Davis, Lions rookie Linebacker out of the University of Florida had some rough moments this preseason, he also had some shining moments. This being his first real NFL game comes with the hardest test of the year.
Johnson, running back for the Cardinals is the best dual threat running back in the NFL. He said this season his goal is 1,000 rushing yards, as well as 1,000 receiving yards. Davis will have a very busy day between trying to fill the running lanes and covering the speedy back on passing route. Trial by fire for the 1st round pick.
4. CB Darius Slay vs WR Larry Fitzgerald:
Slay will most likely follow Cardinals #1 wide receiver Fitzgerald. It will be interesting to see if the Lions corner will also line up in the slot, which is where Fitzgerald spends a lot of time.
The last time these two met, Fitzgerald went for five catches, 58 yards, and a touchdown. With that being said, that was in 2015 and Slay has blossomed into a top-10 CB in the NFL since then.
5. Lions Punt Team vs Cardinals Return Game:
Lions with start the year with pre season stand out Kasey Redfern as their punter. Sam Martin is out for this game and between the new punter seeing real NFL action as well as the Lions trading away gunner stand out Johnson Bademosi.
How well will the Lions punt unit be able to turn the field with standout return man Patrick Peterson on the other side?Follow here:
